Chinese authorities on Thursday released a selected list of universities and colleges, which will participate in the country’s construction plan of world-class universities and first-class disciplines.
9月21日，国家有关部门发布了一份高校名单，上榜高校将会参与国家的“世界一流大学”和“一流学科”建设计划。
 The plan, also known as the “Double-First Class” initiative, aims to ultimately build a number of world class universities and disciplines by the end of 2050, in an effort to make China an international higher education power.
该计划又称“双一流”倡议，旨在于2050年年底最终建成一批世界一流大学和一流学科，将中国打造成为国际高等教育强国。
 According to the circular jointly released by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Finance (MOF), and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), 42 universities and colleges will be developed into world-class educational institutions, while 95 universities will focus on building their preponderant disciplines into first-rate ones.

The institutions were selected after a process of peer competition, expert review and government evaluation, according to the circular.
